Aim of Framework

The aim is to provide an accessible framework process that provides direction to identify human rights violations for women in Glasgow, and beyond, and a structure to purse gender-transformative change.

How this was achieved

GWVSN was funded by Glasgow City Council Community Grants Fund to participate in a Human Rights Course facilitated by Making Rights Real. Interest amongst the members of GWVSN was high and some attended additional human rights meetings and training outwith GWVSN provision.

Wise Women has supported this process. It was delayed during Covid, which also had an impact on motivation.

GWVSN undertook a pilot project, to test the framework, a survey of women’s experience of safety on public transport. Wise Women has drafted the framework based on the women’s experiences for approval by the members.

There is no doubt that the development of the framework was a challenge for the members and Wise Women. We had hoped to ensure full participation of members in the development of the Framework, but found that taking guidance from the women, consulting with them and then drafting the framework was the most effective way to complete the task. The women had the final decision on whether to launch the framework. We aimed to ensure maximum control by the women, without impacting negatively on their lives.

Our expectation is that anyone using the framework would do so with the maximum input from the women they are consulting, remaining within the Citizen Control section of the Participation Ladder.
